The main objective was to ease tensions, although the differences between both parties are still significant. The defender expressed his complaint to the Madrid leadership about leaked information regarding the negotiations and the amount of the contract renewal offer presented by the club months ago. During the meeting, he showed great annoyance at the attempts to tarnish his image and that of his family by portraying them as money-hungry individuals.

While the meeting in Guangzhou has allowed for an initial approach, the situation remains complex. The defender maintains his desire to leave, although Madrid is convinced that he will eventually renew his contract. Madrid has offered him a salary of seven million net, but he is asking for ten. The agreement could be closed at nine million.
