This Tuesday night will begin the 47th edition of the Copa MX, formerly called Copa México, with La Franja from Puebla as the defending champion, after defeating the Chivas Rayadas from Guadalajara by a score of 4-2 in the final of this tournament last April, which also marked the official retirement from the fields of Cuauhtémoc Blanco, former player of América and national team.
A total of 14 matches between today and tomorrow will be part of the first leg of the group stage of this competition, highlighting the debuts of Guadalajara against the Mineros from Zacatecas of Ascenso MX at the Omnilife Stadium, and the Pumas of the UNAM against the Alebrijes from Oaxaca, also from the Ascenso division, at the Olímpico Universitario tonight, as well as the away match of Cruz Azul against the Venados from Yucatan, on Wednesday.
Club América will not be part of the Copa MX Apertura 2015 because they will play, starting next week, the CONCACAF Champions League, the same case for Querétaro, Tigres and Santos, so, out of the 28 teams that will fight for this title, 14 belong to Liga MX and the other half to Ascenso MX.
