Coach of Mallorca dismisses the signing of Ariel 'Caño' Ibagaza

The coach of Mallorca, Albert 'Chapi' Ferrer, has ruled out the signing of veteran Argentine midfielder Ariel 'Caño' Ibagaza, 39, stating that he is not the type of player they are looking for.

In response to the possibility of Ibagaza, former player of Mallorca and Atlético de Madrid among other teams, joining the trainings, Ferrer has been clear: "I like that they want to train with us, but it is not a topic that is on the table; we have a specific line of work and players, and for now he is not the type of player we are looking for."

Ibagaza has been part of Mallorca's squad in two stints, between 1998-2003 and 2006-2008. After playing for Villarreal and Olympiacos, his last team was Greek side Panionios.

On the other hand, Ferrer has positively assessed the additions of Brazilians Luis Filippe, Vinicius Moraes de Lima, and Hugo Gomes, the first two loaned from Gremio de Porto Alegre, and the third from Sao Paulo.

"Hugo is a very powerful center-back, Luis Filippe has goal-scoring abilities and a strong presence up front, and Lima is very skillful with the ability to dribble," he explained.

The Catalan coach has expressed great satisfaction with the team's performance in the three friendly matches played in Germany, which resulted in draws (1-1) against Hannover-96 and Kickers Offenbach, and another draw (2-2) against Rot-Weiss Essen.

"We have competed very well. The feelings are very good, the players have been very committed and are gradually grasping what we want to do, how we want to play," Ferrer explained.
