Leonardo Bonucci will play for the Juventus for the next 5 seasons after extending his contract with the Italian club until the year 2020. The Italian club made the agreement official this morning during a press conference attended by the President of Juventus, Andrea Agnelli, and the player himself.
This puts an end to the rumors of his possible departure that placed him in the Real Madrid as a replacement for Sergio Ramos, in case the Sevillian central defender had decided to leave the white club for the Premier League, specifically to Manchester United.
During the press conference, the Italian defender stated that "this renewal is the beginning of a new cycle, but also a reward for what has been achieved in the last five years." He also said "I take responsibility for making all my experience available to the newcomers."
Meanwhile, President Andrea Agnelli declared that "it is the 'old' ones who must make a difference in this new stage" and sees Bonucci as the reference player for Juventus in the coming years, as he expects "something special from Bonucci"
This renewal joins that of great symbols of Juventus such as Buffon, Marchisio and Chiellini, in a year in which a generational change is taking place in the Italian club with the departure of Pirlo (who has gone to New York City), Tévez (Boca Juniors) and Arturo Vidal (Bayern). In response to this situation, the defender declared that "the team has changed but a 'hard core' remains of which I am a part. We are prepared to build new and exciting victories."
