This Monday, David Pizarro completed his first training session as the new Santiago Wanderers reinforcement and ruled out a soon re-debut wearing the caturros' shirt, after returning to the club after 16 seasons.
"People have to understand that this is not about arriving and starting to play overnight. If I had arrived earlier, I could have played these matches without a doubt. But I need the time to be able to prepare properly. Especially because it will be a saving account for me to avoid injuries during the year," explained Pizarro in El Mercurio de Valparaíso.
"I'm starting gradually, on Wednesday I have to go and do the fitness test in Santiago and, based on the results of that, we will have the basis for my preparation to arrive as quickly as possible," he added.
Also, the former Fiorentina midfielder expressed his feelings regarding his return to the team from Valparaíso, where he emerged in the late 90s.
"The sensations are very important because there is a great responsibility on my part. But we know that a single player cannot make a difference if the collective does not follow you," he said.
It is likely that Pizarro will make his reappearance for the caturros in the match against Libertad from Paraguay, for the Copa Sudamericana, on August 12, at the Estadio Elías Figueroa.
"That's the most important challenge I have because it's an international appointment, where many people see you. I want to prepare well to reach that match, that's what I have in mind today," he pointed out.
