Despite a slow start with just one win in three matches and with the shadow remaining of the semi-final refereeing controversy, Mexico proved too strong for Jamaica in last night’s final match at the Lincoln Financial Field. Surprise package of the 2015 competition, Jamaica, were eventually outplayed by the Mexican side with goals from Andrés Guardado, Jesús Corona and Oribe Peralta. Darren Mattocks did manage to pull back a 79th minute consolation for the Caribean side but it was a question of too little too late as Miguel Herrera’s side lifted their seventh Gold Cup trophy in Philadelphia.

Mexico will now play the U.S.A (2013 Gold Cup champions), on Oct. 9th for CONCACAF'S spot in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
