Jackson Martínez was officially presented this evening as an Atletico Madrid player at the Calderon in front of approximately 10.000 supporters (with a high presence of Colombian fans). Before entering the field of play and showcasing a repertoire of ball trickery to the delight of the fans, the Colombian spoke to the assembled media in the press area.
General feelings: “I feel that I’m at a team with high demands and hunger for success. The training staff demands the maximum and I feel we are building a great squad”.
How do you rate your team mates: “Torres, Vietto and Griezmann are spectacular players. They’ve evolved as players and Vietto is a player with a great future ahead”.
Simeone: “He is a hard worker. You know this well (directed at the press). He transmits confidence to all the squad”.
Being the second most expensive signing in Atleti’s history: “The only pressure I’m under is to give 100% in every game and training session. My price tag carries no pressure. I want to pay back the club for signing me”.
Convinced of choosing to come to Atlético: “It was a complicated situation with alternative offers. But in the end I felt that the offer from Atleti was the most serious, transparent and concrete”.
Competing in La Liga: “Atlético are certainly candidates to challenge for the title. The squad is being really well strengthened. Messi and Cristiano are certainly two players who make a difference in La Liga”
How many goals will you score this season?: “How many interviews will you conduct this season? No-one knows. I can only promise hard work”.
