Villarreal won again in the Emirates Cup today and this time they were too strong for French side, Olympique Lyon, coming out 2-0 winners. Despite a shuffle in the team who beat Bundesliga outfit, Wolfsburg, once again the Spanish side outplayed their opponents in North London.
After a first half with both teams creating half chances, Marcelino’s side really took control after the interval. Bruno’s penalty on the half hour gave the La Liga side a slender advantage and new signing; Leo Bapistao made it two on the 54th minute.
Apart from the goal scorers, Bruno and Baptistao, Areola worked hard but the standout players for Villarreal were unquestionably, Samu Castillejo and Gerad Moreno. Both players posed plenty of questions of the French defense throughout the game. Positive signs from the Spanish side after many Villarreal supporters were anxious about the high profile departures the club suffered over the summer.
