The Milan defeated Inter in the first derby between them this season, played in Shenzen (China), with a goal from Frenchman Philippe Mexes in the 63rd minute. Milan coach Roberto Mancini surprised with an initial lineup full of reserves, probably thinking about the upcoming match against Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup.
The first half ended without a dangerous shot on goal and at the beginning of the second half Inter coach Sinisa Mihajlovic chose to change eight players. He only kept Sciglio, Matri, and Niang. The real derby started in the 60th minute, with the entry of D'Ambrosio, Kondogbia, Hernanes, Brozovic, and Icardi for Inter; and Bacca and Luiz Adriano for Milan.
A corner kick favored the goal of Mexes, who from the right edge of the area shot the ball on the fly and found the opposite angle of the opponent's goal. Mancini's attempt to counter that goal by taking out Icardi and Hernanes was not enough for Inter.
