BBVA President Francisco González received Spanish-Venezuelan tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza, brand ambassador and finalist in the last Wimbledon tournament, whom he congratulated for her good sports results.



Muguruza, BBVA ambassador since November 2014, handed over one of the rackets she used in the tournament for a solidarity action through Unicef. In this sense, the bank will make a donation of 150,000 euros to the initiative and has launched a donation campaign to develop two educational projects in Spain and Venezuela, BBVA reported.



"Garbiñe has been a BBVA ambassador for a year when she was ranked number 20 in the world. When we met her, we quickly realized that she had values ​​we like, which are very similar to ours," declared González, who highlighted from the Caracas native "her simplicity, empathy, closeness, ambition and enormous capacity for effort, which fit in with the company's "values" and that they will continue to "support her".



For her part, Muguruza stated that BBVA's support encourages her to keep "growing" and striving. "I hope that at the end of the season I can come back to celebrate more successes together," she affirmed. "This racket means a lot to me and that's why I want it to help spread the solidarity project that I share with BBVA and Unicef," she said regarding the racket she handed over to González.



On the other hand, BBVA has launched a solidarity action to raise funds for two Unicef projects in the field of education. In Spain, the contributions will go towards a project that contributes to the achievement of the 2030 educational challenges proposed by the international community. The other project aims to improve the quality of education and reduce school dropout rates in disadvantaged areas of Venezuela, Muguruza's home country.



In this sense, the bank will make an initial contribution of 150,000 euros to the projects and has launched a publicity campaign through the entity's social media to encourage donations for the cause.



The racket signed by the tennis player will be raffled among the followers of Facebook who share the campaign promotion video and those who retweet the action #laraquetadeGarbiñe on Twitter. In addition, anyone can make a donation through the BBVA Suma portal with a transfer.
