Paola Mautino
is anxious. The long jump competition was supposed to be held on Thursday, but the organization of the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games changed it to Friday. One more day of waiting. The 25-year-old Peruvian chatted with DT El Comercio at the Pan American Village.
"There are 15 competitors. One of them is the second best in the world. It's very difficult. I'm going to give my best. My goal is to improve my personal record and make it into the top 8," she said about her goal in the competition.
Mautino, who won a gold medal at the 2013 Bolivarian Games and came first in the 2015 South American Championship, said that managing the wind will be important to achieve a good result.
"The track is really good. But there's an issue with the wind. It's quite strong. We have to manage it. It can either help you or ruin the competition. These things happen in competitions and you have to have good control," she said.
She will travel to China in a month to compete in the World Championships. What better preparation than the 2015 Pan American Games.
