The Espanyol squad has already decided on the captains for the new season. Javi López, Héctor Moreno, Víctor Sánchez, and Víctor Álvarez have been chosen by their teammates to represent the team and will wear the captain armband during the season.
The departures of Sergio García, Colotto, and Kiko Casilla have left three vacancies in the captaincy, which is why three new players had to be chosen. Javi López is the only one of the chosen players who already wore the armband last season, and he assumes the highest responsibility as the first captain for the current season. The selection was based on seniority within the team. Therefore, Héctor Moreno, who is currently in Mexico completing the recovery phase from a surgery to remove an old implant in his right foot, has been chosen ahead of Víctor Sánchez. The Mexican player has not yet joined the team's training sessions, but he was informed of the decision before the news became official and has accepted to be the second captain.
This afternoon, in the match against Colonia, Javi López will wear the captain armband, as he previously did in the match against the Val d'Aran team, and in the second half, Víctor Sánchez will wear it.
