The engine of his life, his inspiration and his main support to become the football player he is today is his mother, María Yaneth; Yeison Gordillo Vargas only has words of gratitude for the being who gave him life and who has driven him to fulfill his dreams. The biggest of all, being a professional player.
"My mom has always been there, she has been the most important person, she is my engine in football; and she is the one who will benefit the most from this," said the footballer born in Miranda, Cauca.
Three women adorn Yeison's world; his mother is joined by two beautiful ladies who now accompany him and are his reason for being, Margie Alejandra, his wife, and his daughter Mariana, who was born just a month and a half ago and who brought wonderful changes with her, a new club, Independiente Santa Fe; a new city, Bogotá; and many reasons to dream big.
"I always had the initiative to be a football player, I love being a winner in life and I am characterized by that on the field. I'm a serious midfielder who likes to win it all and that's why I love playing football."
The 23-year-old from Cauca had the illusion of establishing himself in one of the most historic teams in Colombian football, the first champion and current national and international protagonist. Until now, he had made his professional career at Boyacá Chicó, a club with only 13 years of history.
"Being at Santa Fe means a lot, it is an important step for me and my family, I believe it was time to emerge and improve in every way and I think it happened at the right time and at a good age."
Gordillo hopes to give his best in the great moment for Independiente Santa Fe. His personality has allowed him to fit in the 'cardinal' group in the best way, he is uncomplicated, talkative and friendly, just as he defines himself. "I am a simple, humble and hardworking person. I am as comfortable speaking as I am playing. I am an excellent father and I hope to continue being that way."
But above all, he is productive. He describes himself as a defensive midfielder with good ball recovery and great physical performance. A player who did not come to replace Daniel Torres, but to make a name for himself, earn his place and be recognized for his virtues on the field.
"In the 4-3-1-2 system, I see myself as a central midfielder, an anchor, organizing, ordering and recovering the ball. I can be very important there. But if one day the coach decides to put me on the side, I would also do very well because I have good rhythm for going back and forth and because I would recover closer to the goal."
Yeison is known as the man with three lungs for his great physical performance. That's how his teacher and guide, coach Alberto Gamero, who coached him for several seasons at Boyacá Chicó, nicknamed him.
"From 'professor' Gamero, I learned hierarchy, how to run on the field and how to recover the ball in the middle of the field without committing fouls or receiving many yellow cards. That helped me to sustain myself and play a good number of matches," said the 1.77-meter tall midfielder.
Yeison Gordillo patiently awaits his opportunity to take the field dressed as a 'lion'. He wants to win the affection of the red and white fans on the field, show his qualities, and defend the 'cardinal' home with all his 'claw'. The opportunity might be close, Juan Daniel Roa's injury might put him in the match against Boyacá Chicó, the club where he precisely developed as a professional. There is still a week of work ahead and the Cauca native will have to work and earn his place.
