The Argentine goalkeeper of Real Sociedad, Gerónimo Rulli, has acknowledged the interest of other teams in signing him in this summer transfer window, although "it would have been a betrayal" if he had left the team from San Sebastián, where he feels "happy and hopeful" to have "a good season".

"It was an atypical month when I arrived, but that's all behind us now and I am focused on what this year will bring with Real Sociedad. I am happy and looking forward to having a good season, which is what we set out to do when preseason started. We want to improve on last year," Rulli explained in a press conference on Tuesday.

The Argentine footballer admitted that "there was a lot of talk" about his future, and that he "was aware of what was happening". "I knew what the people at Real thought. The teams also played their cards and my idea was always the same. I had given my word to my friends and to the people at the club, and it would have been a betrayal if I had gone to another team," he said.

The goalkeeper revealed that "it was a month in which everything was discussed". "At times yes, and at times no. But I repeat: my idea was the same. I had given my word here and that is worth more than a piece of paper. I was calm with that and the club knew that I was going to make every effort to stay. Everything was resolved for the best and I am now focused on what is to come," he said.

"The truth is that preseason is going as expected, very tough. We are preparing ourselves in the best way and we knew what we were going to face when the previous season ended. The coach warned us that it was going to be tough. And the truth is that we are happy because we are doing things well and it will show when the league starts," he said.

Thus, Rulli confirmed that his goal is to improve on what they did "in the previous season". "I believe we have a team to fight for important positions, to compete for an important cup and we are preparing ourselves in that way. The truth is that these matches we have had are helping us see what we need to improve. I think we will arrive in good form for the start of the season," he commented.

"When I train, I don't feel like a starter. I feel like I am fighting for a position, any of the three. I will work day by day to maintain this position that I worked so hard to win. I see the guys doing very well, they are eager to learn and hopefully, for the good of them and the club, we have three great goalkeepers in the academy waiting for their chance," Rulli said regarding the competition in the 'txuri-urdin' goal.
