Carlos Sainz has defended

his professional colleague and on-track rival, Fernando Alonso, who is suffering criticism for the alleged bad decisions he is making when choosing teams throughout his Formula 1 career. The young driver has stated that the reason why the Asturian has only two world titles is bad luck.

"I think it's impossible to say that someone who has won two world titles and has been runner-up three times with Ferrari makes bad decisions. Simply, there are times when you are not in the right place at the right time. I think, if he's guilty of anything, it's being unlucky," said the Madrid-born driver to UOL Esporte.

Fernando Alonso has had a 10-year drought in terms of world titles. Since the titles achieved with Ferrari in 2005 and 2006, the number 1 has eluded the Spanish driver. Likewise, Sainz assures that the years 2010, 2012, and 2013, in which Alonso finished as runner-up, cannot be forgotten.

Despite the results of recent years, Fernando is one of the most highly regarded drivers on the grid. Sainz, like many of his colleagues, asserts that one cannot doubt the talent of the Oviedo-born driver, as it has been demonstrated over the years: "With Fernando, you know he can do a perfect lap in qualifying, a perfect start, a perfect first lap, and nail every lap of the race within a tenth. You can learn everything and more from Fernando."
