Alberto Contador admits he's not as strong as race leader Chris Froome
Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) admitted at the finish line in Gap that he "is not equally strong" as British leader Chris Froome, but warned that he will try to "take advantage of any opportunity".
"We have to look for opportunities. For me, it's a different Tour, I am far behind Froome and I'm not equally strong as him. However, if there are chances, I will try to take advantage of them. There is room for maneuver, there are still 4 stages in the Alps and that is a lot", he said.
The Madrid cyclist tried his luck in the ascent to Col de Manse but did not achieve the desired effects.
"I tried, but going up the wind was against me and it was difficult to continue alone", he said.
Contador witnessed the fall of British cyclist Geraint Thomas in the middle of the descent, in a place that was familiar to him.
"I was behind and I saw it perfectly. I fell there two years ago. I had left some distance. It has been two scares", he concluded.
