Kristel Köbrich
Kristel Köbrich reached her fourth medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto, this time winning silver. Despite not being able to repeat her first place achievement from four years ago in Guadalajara, the feeling of the greatest Chilean swimmer in history was one of almost complete satisfaction.
And it was a total effort. She always came from behind and although she couldn't ultimately surpass Sierra Schmidt, she was very close. "I tried to catch her, but it didn't go well. I know I was very fast, I caught up to her, but it wasn't enough for me to win, which is what I wanted. But I was able to give Chile another medal, which was also important. I gave it my all," she admitted after the competition.
However, the swimmer didn't just win a medal in the pool in Toronto. She also secured her spot in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. "I'm happy with the time, which allows me to go next year. It gives me peace of mind to be able to prepare and work. I have the World Championship in 15 days, which also means a lot to me," she added.
In this way, Köbrich finishes another continental participation with a fifth place in the open water event and second place in the 800 meters. In her style, she once again demonstrated her relevance. And that her name in history is beyond dispute.
