Pelé hospitalized in Sao Paulo
The Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento "Pelé", 74 years old and for many the greatest football player in history, has been admitted to a hospital in Sao Paulo, although the reasons have not been disclosed, confirmed today medical sources.
Spokespersons for the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital, where the former footballer is located, confirmed his admission but said they have not been authorized to specify the reasons or when he was hospitalized.
However, sources cited by the globoesporte portal said that Pelé has been in the hospital since last Tuesday and that his condition is not serious.
In May of last year, Pelé was admitted to the same hospital, where he underwent surgery for prostate hyperplasia.
At that time, doctors reported that the disease detected was "benign", that there was no presence of tumors, and that the problem he was suffering from in the prostate caused urinary retention.
Pelé, who has only one kidney since his football career, had already been hospitalized for 16 days at the end of last year due to a urinary infection that arose after having surgery for kidney stones.
