Santa Fe Players Resting to Avoid Injuries

The wear and tear of playing two matches in less than three days is starting to take its toll on Santa Fe. Several players are experiencing discomfort and need rest to prevent injuries. Coach Gerardo Pelusso will take care of his key players and will only use those who are fully fit.

"I'm considering making changes to the starting lineup. The team has felt the effort of these first two matches. Some players have minor injuries. On Saturday, I will define the team that will play on Sunday. We will assess which players are in perfect condition to play and we will give opportunities to those who have not had a chance to play," said the coach.

As usual, and as he announced since his arrival to the 'cardenal' house, the Uruguayan coach preferred not to give any clues about the starting eleven or the positions where the substitutes would be placed. He also did not comment on the match and what he expects to see on Sunday at El Campín.

"Cúcuta Deportivo is an important opponent and we treat them as such. The fact that they are at the bottom of the table means nothing; on the contrary, important things are at stake. This club has incorporated a significant number of good level players. They had difficulties in the first match, but a week has passed and they will surely be more consolidated. We saw their football idea, what they tried to implement in the first game, we know that they are a team in construction," he said.

Pelusso stated that Santa Fe has corrected several aspects during the week, despite the limited time they had to work in training.

"We corrected several aspects from the first to the second match. In the first game, Equidad created seven goal-scoring opportunities against us, but in the second match, they only had two; we improved defensively. In terms of offensive production, we had the same amount of chances as in the previous match, it remained the same. And I measure goal-scoring chances, not ball possession. Overall, the team has improved," the coach said.

The lineup for Sunday's second match of the Liga Águila II-2015 will be announced after the last practice session before the game. On Saturday, the group will train at the Tenjo facility, finalize details, and work on the strategy to defeat Cúcuta.
