Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has a long-standing injury and is a doubt for the Gold Cup, which kicks off in the US and Canada on July 7, the Costa Rica Football Federation (Fedefut) said on Tuesday.
Fedefut commissioner Adrián Gutiérrez confirmed that Navas has been struggling with a chronic Achilles tendon problem for around a year. Gutiérrez said that the federation had informed Real Madrid of the keeper's situation and that he will undergo scans on Wednesday to determine the extent of the problem.
Navas was used as a back-up to Iker Casillas at Real last season and now has the shadow of David de Gea's expected arrival hanging over as well as the arrival of a new coach in the shape of Rafa Benítez.
