University of Chile faces incidents that suspend the match against Rangers
University of Chile traveled to Talca with the mission of adding their third victory in the Chilean Cup. Until the second half, everything was going perfectly, because the blues were winning 2-0, with goals from Gustavo Canales (24' and 33'). However, at half-time, the visiting fans caused serious incidents that forced the match to be suspended.
When both teams returned to the field, they found the surprise that U fans were throwing seats that they had ripped out towards local fans in the east stands of the stadium. Referee Jorge Osorio waited a few minutes hoping that everything would calm down. However, none of that happened.
On the contrary, the situation became more confrontational, as the blue fans that had entered the stands in an attempt to control the disturbances.
At the same time, in the main stands of the stadium, another group of U fans began attacking local fans. The situation generated scenes of panic, as family groups had to leave their seats in the midst of generalized terror.
In those circumstances, the teams of Rangers and University of Chile, along with the referee quartet, went to the locker rooms waiting for a solution. However, a few minutes later, Hugo Veloso, the Intendant of the Seventh Region, announced that the match had been suspended due to the disturbances.
