Caitlyn Jenner: A Journey of Transformation

Jenner, a former athlete and television star, revealed a few months ago, at the age of 65, her new identity after undergoing surgery to become a woman.

'Call me Caitlyn'

The article in Vanity Fair titled 'Call me Caitlyn' showed the ex-athlete, previously known as William Bruce, embracing her new identity and defending her gender transition at her age as a way to fully realize herself as a human being.

Yesterday, during the ESPY Awards, Caitlyn Jenner was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award by the American television network ESPN. In her acceptance speech, she called for respect for transgender individuals and urged us to "rethink the way we see the transgender community."

"This transition has been harder for me than anything I could have imagined. This journey has been revealing, inspiring, and also terrifying," said the former athlete amidst applause from an audience supportive of her. She acknowledged the support she received from her family (the Kardashian sisters, who were in attendance and emotionally moved by the event) throughout her transformation process, and emphasized that she never intended to hurt them.

In a significant part of her speech, Caitlyn Jenner called for collective sensitivity to protect teenagers from harassment, as they often "are beaten, murdered, or even driven to suicide." She declared, "Transgender individuals deserve something essential; they deserve respect. From that respect comes a more compassionate community."
