The Deportivo Cali leaders maintain that the Dimayor authorized them to field John Pérez in the first match of the Liga Águila, despite owing a suspension. They argue that the permission was granted because the player from Santander had been suspended in the Torneo del Ascenso (Bucaramanga) and that he had to serve his suspension in that tournament and not in the Liga.
However, this Wednesday, the Disciplinary Committee of the Championship sanctioned the sugar mill team with the loss of the game against Jaguares by 0-3. On the field, the match ended 0-1 in favor of the Monteria team. In addition, Cali was fined $12,887,000, "for being responsible for making a suspended player (John Pérez) play on the field or allowing him to be present on the substitute bench, who entered in the 62nd minute of the game against Jaguares, for matchday 1 of the Liga Águila," states the report.
Despite the legal representative of Deportivo Cali's defenses, the Disciplinary Committee argued that "according to num. 3° of article 31 of the CDU of the FCF, when the imposed penalty cannot be completed before the end of the official championship, the remaining part will be enforced in the subsequent tournaments."
Deportivo Cali will be able to use a reconsideration resource before the Championship Disciplinary Committee and an appeal before the Disciplinary Commission of the Dimayor.
Cali sanctions popular stand's barras
The disturbances last Sunday in the south stand motivated the Security and Conviviality Committee of Palmira Football to sanction the barra located in that area: they will not be able to enter the stadium for the next three matches (Chicó, Málaga, and Tolima, excluding the game behind closed doors against Uniautónoma). The sanction also applied to the barra located in the north stand.
