The Hardy Boyz were surprised and lost in the fourth fight of Extreme Rules 2017. The clear favorites lost the Tag Team Championships to Cesaro and Sheamus.

The Hardy Boyz had the match dominated until Jeff Hardy left the cage. The more acrobatic of the brothers was quick and overcame the steel cage.
But his brother Matt was not so lucky. The second Hardy was at the mercy of Cesaro and Sheamus. Jeff was forced to return. The agile fighter returned from the top and performed his popular somersault.

Jeff Hardy landed on the challengers and was knocked out. Matt started to leave the cage and Cesaro and Sheamus did the same while Jeff remained unconscious. The wrestlers looking for the titles escaped by the edge, while Matt pulled out Jeff.

The champions lost by seconds as the challengers managed to touch the floor one second before. Matt, while dragging Jeff, wasted valuable time and couldn't remove his brother's body from the cage before Cesaro and Sheamus. Against all odds, they lost the tag team titles.
