Robin van Persie signs contract with Fenerbahçe
The Dutch forward, Robin van Persie, signed a contract with Fenerbahçe on Tuesday, the second most successful club in Turkey. The ceremony, broadcast live on the NTV channel, attracted around seven or eight thousand fans to the Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium in the Kadiköy neighborhood of Istanbul, where the signing took place in front of the cameras.
Contract details
Although the press release issued yesterday by Fenerbahçe does not specify the content of the contract, the press reports suggest that it is an agreement for the next three years worth 3.5 million euros. The Dutch forward, 31 years old, will wear the number 11 on his shirt.
Warm welcome from the fans
After signing the contract, Robin van Persie stepped onto the field, accompanied by his 8-year-old son, Shaqueel, who was also dressed as a football player. They started playing together, throwing balls, amidst the cheers of the crowd. "Merhaba Fenerbahçe, tesekkürler" (Hello Fenerbahçe, thank you)," were the first words spoken by the Dutch star.
Learning Turkish
"You have just heard the first words I learned in Turkish. Learning Turkish will be one of my priorities now. I think this is very important for adaptation," explained Van Persie. "I see a lot of excitement, more than I imagined. Tesekkürler Fenerbahçe. Together we will win," added the player, who spent 8 seasons as the star of Arsenal and his last three years at Manchester United.
