Deportivo Cali falls 0-1 against Jaguares at Palmaseca
Deportivo Cali fell 0-1 against Jaguares at Palmaseca, and the scoreline could have been more significant at the desk.
John Pérez, one of Cali's reinforcements, was supposed to serve a one-match suspension that he carried over from the previous semester when he played for Bucaramanga.
Despite this, on Sunday, he entered as a substitute in the game against Montería, making his debut with Deportivo Cali.
Not enforcing the suspension could result in a 0-3 loss for the team. However, the Vice President of Cali downplayed the situation.
"We have a response from Dimayor, authorizing us to use John Pérez. Our manager, Iván Novela, replied, after our consultation, that there was no problem," stated Luis Fernando Ángel, Vice President of Deportivo Cali, in an interview with AS Colombia.
Regarding the controversy, Ángel further explained: "We knew that the player had a suspension in the Torneo Águila, and Dimayor informed us that he could play in the Liga, as they are separate tournaments. We understand that John Pérez must serve his suspension in the B Tournament."
When asked about the situation, Jaguares' president, Nelson Soto, said: "If we had lost the match, we would file a complaint; so, I have no interest in making a fuss because we won the game on the field." He added, "The disciplinary commission of Dimayor will have to pronounce on the matter."
Deportivo Cali lost 0-1 against Jaguares in their debut in the Liga Águila II and hopes that the result won't be changed.
