A mask fell, love fell.

The Arena Mexico has stories to tell that go beyond the ring.

The Arena Mexico has stories to tell that go beyond the ring.

First Fall

Three obligatory claps are heard. The arena explodes in jubilation, Diamante Azul has just won the mask vs mask fight against Pierroth, who claims to be Arturo Muñoz.

The so-called 'Beast of the Ring' was not the favorite, almost the entire arena celebrates the fall of the Ingobernable wrestler.

There is an exception, it is a young man about 22 years old, dark-skinned, tall, trimmed beard and long hair. His name is Matías Castillo and when he sees Pierroth handing over his mask, he bursts into tears.

He wears a black T-shirt with the logo of Los Ingobernables and jeans, a sponge mask with the classic yellow and black colors of Pierroth is on his head.

The crying, obviously, goes beyond, it has nothing to do with the fight or the defeat of the idol.

Second Fall

The first time Matías went out with his ex-partner was to the Arena México, as they both had a strong passion for the wrestling sport. A wrestling show is a good pretext to get to know someone's true self.

That time, La Sombra and Atlantis disputed the mask on the 82nd anniversary of Mexican wrestling. La Sombra handed over the 'tapa' and the situation becomes déjà vu, the crying makes sense if we remember that Manuel Andrade was also part of Los Ingobernables.

"Sometimes I feel like I am like them, La Sombra lost, La Máscara lost, and now Pierroth... I also lost, and it goes beyond pride, I lost her," he reflects.

The first time they held hands was in the hallways of the Cathedral, dressed in the classic black shirt with a print of a wrestler.

She was wearing La Sombra's mask and, as if it were a superhero movie, he kissed her with the 'tapa' on.

That September 19, the story of a masked man ended, but a beautiful tradition began: going as a couple to enjoy wrestling.

Third Fall

After two years, it is the first time Matías goes to the Arena México without her, he does not dare to mention her name, he refers to his ex-partner as "her,"  just like that, without more.

"A friend invited me today, she wants to make me feel better, but she doesn't know that I feel dirty, I feel unfaithful, it is too soon to come to our place with someone else," I hear him say. "It's incredible how one takes ownership of places, right? They are our stands, our seats, our hallways, our ring... our arena."

Life has taken them on different paths and every time either of them sees wrestling, it will never be the same because laughter and tears always remain, victories and defeats, locks and counters, subtle shouts and curses, and above all, the love they professed to each other.

Diamante Azul celebrates his victory, Matías turns around and prepares to leave the place with his head down.

Arturo Muñoz hands over his mask and Matías wipes away the last tears, touches the seats, scans the hallways with his eyes, as if looking for her among the people. She's not there.

Pierroth goes after his assailant, hits him in anger, while seats 22 and 23 of row 11 are left empty, numbers where they used to sit and that until the end of the Arena México, will belong, at least in the subconscious of two people, to Matías and "her."
