Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum has hinted that Wuhan striker, Oparanozie could be set to feature in Nigeria’s game against England.
Super Falcons and Wuhan Jianghan University forward, Desire Oparanozie could make a surprise appearance in the round of sixteen tie against England, Soccernet.ng reports
The forward is yet to feature in a game at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, having picked up an injury at the team’s training camp prior to the start of the tournament, and having made a return from injury just before the game against Australia, the twenty-nine-year-old struggled with fitness, but the team’s coach, Randy Waldrum, has given the green light over the situation and has hinted that the striker with thirty-five caps with Nigeria, could make a surprise appearance in Brisbane on Monday.
Asisat Oshoala and Ifeoma Onumonu have been deployed in the centre of the attack, deputizing for the injured Oparanozie, who couldn’t feature at the WAFCON tournament due to COVID-19-related issues. Speaking to Victor Modo to clarify the situation, Coach Randy Waldrum said;
“We hope to have her available. She came to camp and picked up an injury in the camp, and she only really started training a day before the game against Australia. She wants to play and is looking forward to playing, and with the break, we’ve had three or four more days to look at her and make sure she’s fully fit, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she features in the match.”
The Super Falcons will be engaging in a make-or-break tie at the Brisbane Stadium in Australia, where they will take on the Lionesses of England, and are looking to extend their stay to the next round.
