The person who was driving fled: vehicle registered under Ray Sandoval's name crashed into a post in Piura.

This Tuesday morning, Ray Sandoval's car crashed into a pole at the intersection of Avenida Málaga and José María Escrivá in Piura. This incident happened one day after Atlético Grau's victory over Melgar (2-1) in matchday 18 of the Clausura Tournament: the forward scored one of the goals for the northern team.

According to local media ("Piura en la Noticia"), some witnesses claimed that the athlete was the person driving the vehicle. Instead of staying to resolve the situation, he would have fled after the incident, leaving his car abandoned on the street.

So far, Ray Sandoval has not commented on the matter, although a recent story on his Instagram account showed that he was attending a meeting hours before the accident with his vehicle in the northern part of the country.

Ray Sandoval already has a history of indiscipline, as he made headlines in early August 2020 after being involved in an incident in public while intoxicated. The football player, who was a member of Sporting Cristal at that time, crashed his car and caused damage to private property, leading to his arrest by the Peruvian National Police.

The player had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.73, while the legal limit is 0.5. This amount constitutes a crime against society, breaking both rules in the country. Firstly, driving under the influence and secondly, moving around during curfew and a state of emergency due to the coronavirus.
