Day 4 at the ATP Gstaad Open will see the round of 16 matches being concluded. Second seed Matteo Berrettini and fourth seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas start their campaigns. We have some exciting clashes lined up. Who do you think will make it to the quarterfinals?

ATP Gstaad Day 4 Predictions

Albert Ramos-Vinolas vs Dominic Stephen Stricker

Head-to-head: first meeting

Albert Ramos-Vinolas, though now fallen in the rankings, has been playing the role of a dark horse for a long time. His ability to win matches that he is supposed to win, eludes many. Take any clay 250, and quarterfinals is a minimum for Ramos-Vinolas I’d say. On the other side of the net, Dominic Stricker edged through in three sets. Full marks for the fight, but having to work so hard in the first round indicates a very tough time for him in the next.
Prediction: Ramos-Vinolas in 2

Pedro Martinez vs Elias Ymer

Head-to-head: Martinez 0 – 2 Ymer

Pedro Martinez had a tough first round match-up in Carlos Taberner, but in the end, he prevailed in straight sets. He’s really dangerous on clay when firing. Elias Ymer was dominating his first round, going a set up in half an hour, before Paire had to retire. In their past two encounters, Ymer has come out the winner. The latest one was 3 years ago though, and right now, Martinez is not only ranked higher, but he’s also the better player.
Prediction: Martinez in 3

Nicolas Jarry vs Yannick Hanfmann

Head-to-head: first meeting

Nicolas Jarry knocked out Thiago Monteiro in his first round match which lasted over 3 hours over 3 tie-breaks. The match stats are pretty interesting. Jarry blasted a whopping 37 aces in the match and lost just 4 points on his first serve, out of 74, while Monteiro saved 11 breakpoints, leaving him unbroken throughout. That is the past now though, and history will remember only the winner. On the other side, Yannick Hanfmann made short work of sixth seed Cristian Garin. The ease with which he secured the win is really commendable. Looking at the way Jarry performed in his last match though, is enough to convince me that he should advance to the quarterfinals.
Prediction: Jarry in 3

Richard Gasquet vs Matteo Berrettini

Head-to-head: Gasquet 0 – 1 Berrettini

Richard Gasquet overcame tough conditions and a younger player to book a second round slot at the ATP Gstaad Open. He has done well in the clay season a few months back, and is looking good on clay. Berrettini had a red hot start to the year, and the last year’s finalist at Wimbledon was expected to do some magic at this year’s edition as well. Unlucky enough to not be able to get a match there due to COVID, Berrettini will be hungry to get back to his winning ways. Should be a good match, but Berrettini will be too good for Gasquet.
Prediction: Berrettini in 2
