The Ministry of Health sent an epidemiological alert regarding the possible importation of the Omicron variant to Peru, urging to be prepared.

The Ministry of Health urged private and public health centers to remain alert to the possible arrival of the Omicron variant in Peru, a mutation of the coronavirus that is classified as a concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Through the Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Control of Diseases (CDC), the Ministry of Health emphasized that all Integrated Health Directorates in Lima, Regional Health Directorates, and Regional Health Management reinforce their health services in the face of the possible entry of the new viral lineage.

In that line, it was communicated that confirmed cases of COVID-19 in international travelers should be reported, so that the National Institute of Health can be prepared for genomic analysis. As a result, isolation and quarantine measures can be implemented for all direct contacts.

Similarly, it was reminded that there are special restrictions to prevent the entry of foreigners from South Africa into the country, due to geographical location.
