Technical Commission of Ecuadorian Basketball Federation resolves the continuation of the final
The Technical Commission of the Ecuadorian Basketball Federation (FEB), composed of Otilio Valencia, Andrés Buitrón, and Juan Sánchez, has decided that the second game of the Women's Basketball League final will continue this Saturday at 18:00, in a yet-to-be-determined coliseum in Guayaquil; and if the series is tied, the final game will be held on Sunday, at the same venue.
Audaz Octubrino, from El Oro, and Victoria Cogarol from Pichincha have reached the final stage of the tournament and must determine the winner in three matches.
In the first game, played in Machala, the team from El Oro won by 65-50; and when there were 42 seconds left in the second quarter, during the second game in Quito, with Audaz Octubrino leading 11-12, the National Police intervened in the venue, the Julio César Hidalgo coliseum, and did not allow the match to continue, as they noticed a significant number of fans in the stands, which was prohibited by the cantonal COE.
After the incidents, the Technical Commission met and resolved that the game should continue in one of the coliseums in Guayaquil (Abel Jiménez Parra or Voltaire Paladines Polo) with the score 11-12 in favor of Audaz Octubrino and with 9 minutes and 18 seconds remaining.
Another part of the resolution restricts the number of members per club. Now, there will be twelve players, one coach, one assistant coach, one doctor, one physiotherapist, and two delegates.
Finally, it was resolved that the team from Quito must assume the expenses of transportation, accommodation, and meals for the team from El Oro, as well as for the referees and assistants of the match.
Andrés Solano, president of Victoria Cogarol club, stated in an interview with "La Red" radio station in Quito: "First, we will request clarification, and if our appeal is not approved, we are not willing to continue with these decisions, and we would not travel to Guayaquil."
The director added: "Before the start of the game in Quito, the Audaz Octubrino management had the intention of not playing the match. We will appeal the decision to play in Guayaquil; we have presented the option to play in Sangolquí. We have earned the right to play as hosts."
On the other hand, the Audaz Octubrino team, before the resolution was known, released a video in which they request sanctions against the capital team because, according to them, they did not comply with the regulations established by the cantonal COE. They claimed respect for a traditional team from El Oro. (D)
