London -

The Wolverhampton, from the Premier League, has prohibited its players from going to the supermarket to buy groceries out of fear of Covid-19, while the number of infections in England continues to rise.

Tests for footballers and coaching staff in England will be carried out twice a week in the regions most affected by the pandemic.

Out of the 1,569 tests conducted last Monday in the Premier League, seven cases were positive.

However, since then, Manchester City has confirmed four more positive cases: Brazilian Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, and two members of the coaching staff.

"We have staff to do the shopping and go to supermarkets in their place," said Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo before his team's match on Sunday against Tottenham.

"We have to avoid any kind of risk because we have a small squad, and we already have some injured players," added the Portuguese coach.

"We cannot afford to lose any player, we tell them every day 'do not relax and try to be more careful'."

The club had already recommended its players to avoid supermarkets during the first lockdown between March and May 2020. (D)
