Genoa reports 14 coronavirus cases
Genoa announced on Monday that up to fourteen members of the team and club staff have tested positive for the coronavirus in the tests they have undergone.
This is the first major outbreak in a top European league and it comes at the worst possible time for Genoa, who lost 6-0 to Napoli in their most recent Serie A match.
"The club has activated all the procedures provided by the current protocol and has informed the relevant authorities about the procedures. The club will provide the next updates dictated by the situation", Genoa said in a brief statement.
Initially, players Mattia Perin and Lasse Schone tested positive over the weekend. The first on Saturday, while the second on Sunday. On Monday, twelve more cases were added among the team members and staff.
The names of the others involved have not been revealed yet, but it is possible that some players will not be able to play against Torino on Saturday and Napoli players will have to undergo thorough testing after coming into contact with Genoa players over the weekend.
