Real Betis will request provisional transfer for Ruiz, in dispute with Besiktas
Real Betis could not register central defender Víctor Ruiz for the first matchday of LaLiga Santander due to the dispute he has with his former club, Besiktas, and will request the issuance of a provisional transfer from FIFA in order to align one of their three summer signings.
Víctor Ruiz joined Betis at the end of August after unilaterally breaking the contract that linked him until June 2022 with Besiktas, claiming an alleged unpaid amount that the Turkish club denies. As a result, Besiktas has not processed his international transfer and is demanding a compensation of €2 million through legal action.
Sources from the Betis team reported that, in case of judicial dispute, FIFA foresees the issuance of a provisional transfer, a permit that Betis plans to request so that the player can continue his profession, without prejudice to any sanctions in sports or ordinary jurisdictions that he may face.
Víctor Ruiz has played over 350 matches
Víctor Ruiz, 31, would not have been available for Betis' league debut on Sunday in Vitoria anyway, as he has not been training with his teammates since the beginning of this week when a positive COVID-19 case was revealed within the squad, although no confirmation has been made regarding whether the affected player is him.
