Coach of Bologna, Sinisa Mihajlovic, tests positive for COVID-19

The coach of Bologna, Sinisa Mihajlovic, who beat leukemia last year, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will remain isolated for two weeks, the Serie A club announced on Sunday.

The Serbian coach, who had to undergo treatments throughout the season to cure his leukemia, is "completely asymptomatic," the club said on its website.

"Upon returning to Bologna on Friday, he underwent a follow-up test for COVID-19 which came back positive," the team explained in a statement.

The 51-year-old coach, who just renewed his contract until 2023, will be isolated for two weeks, despite Bologna returning to training on Monday.

All players and staff of the first team will be tested on Monday.

In recent days, with the end of the holidays and the realization of tests, several cases of COVID-19, all asymptomatic, have been reported in Italian football.

Napoli, AS Roma, Cagliari, Torino, Sassuolo, and newly promoted Benevento have all reported positive cases among their players recently.

The new Serie A season begins on September 19th. AFP
