Norwich City Relegated from Premier League After 0-4 Loss to West Ham

After being thrashed at home by West Ham (0-4) in the 35th round of the Premier League, Norwich will once again play in the Championship, the English second division, next season, after just one season in the top flight.

Norwich confirms its reputation as a specialist in promotion and relegation and becomes the only club in Premier League history to have been relegated five times in less than 30 years.

Daniel Farke's team has not recovered from the long suspension of the championship due to the coronavirus, as they have lost all seven matches played since the resumption on June 19.

"From day one, after promotion, our chances of survival were maybe five percent. So in 19 out of 20 cases, we would go down. If you are lucky and there are no injuries, then you have possibilities," summarized Farke, Norwich coach, after the defeat.

"When you are at one hundred percent, you are competitive, but when you are at 96 or 97 percent, it's like playing boys against men. That's what I expected," he added.

The start of the season had been promising, with good feelings in the first match against Liverpool, despite the loss (4-1), and then winning the first home game against Newcastle (3-1).

In September, Norwich had even defeated the previous champion Manchester City (3-2), who never recovered from this first defeat in their title pursuit.

Norwich began to slow down in the following weeks, at the same time as their Finnish center-forward Teemu Pukki, who scored more goals in the first month of competition (6) than in the next ten (5).

All four goals for West Ham were scored by English forward Michail Antonio (11, 45+1, 54, 74).

With this victory, the London team (16th) moves away from the relegation zone. AFP
