Marcelo Benevenuto is a defender for Botafogo in Brazil who recently confessed how he has suffered racism from Argentine forward Maxi López, when he played for Vasco da Gama in Brazil. The words of the former Barcelona player are very strong and hurtful.
"I took a deep breath not to be expelled. If I could have played against him again, I don't know what would have happened. I marked him the whole game, we pushed each other in the area, he pushed me a few times but then, he started calling me a black $%", recalled Benevenuto about that match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Marcelo Benevenuto himself said that if there were another rematch, he would be expelled for his reaction to such insults. "He was the dumbest player I've played against. I took deep breaths many times. I didn't do anything to him during the game and I didn't talk about it with anyone. And I controlled myself the entire game, but when I got home, I sat down and thought: 'If we play against Vasco again, I'm going to be expelled,'" recalled the 24-year-old Brazilian defender.
