Jefferson Farfán: Russia will repatriate all foreigners to resume its league.

The Russian Premier League will resume on June 21st.

The Russian Premier League will resume on June 21st.

Russia has already repatriated all foreign legionnaires from clubs in the top category of the national football league, one of the conditions for the restart of the league on June 21.

"This was very important for the resumption of this season, but also for the organization of the next one," said Sergei Priadkin, president of the Russian league, in a statement.

He explained that "all foreign legionnaires and specialists" from teams in the premier division are already in Russian territory, in what he called "the first and very important stage of the roadmap for the resumption of the championship."

And he publicly thanked the Government, the Russian Football Union, the aeronautical authorities, and the security forces for facilitating the return of players and coaches.

The press had estimated that more than 70 foreign players and coaches had left Russia during the pandemic, while others chose to stay in the country.

Since teams started testing their players, footballers like Peruvian Jefferson Farfan (Lokomotiv) and Russian Pavel Pogrebniak (Ural) have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Russian football league will start on June 21 and the cup a few days later, although there will be no spectators in the stands, according to the Russian Football Union.

Russia, the third country in the world with the most COVID-19 cases, recorded 8,915 new cases and a record number of 174 deaths in one day in the last 24 hours.

With the new data, Russia now has 362,342 cases and 3,807 deaths since March, only surpassed by Brazil and the US.

Nevertheless, authorities maintain that the spread of the pandemic in the country has stabilized and half of the regions are prepared for a gradual reopening.
