Alejandro Domínguez, president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), announced his commitment to the prompt resumption of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana 2020, which were suspended due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
"More than two months ago, due to the coronavirus, we made the decision to suspend the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana," Domínguez said in a video on the Conmebol Twitter account.
"Now we're back in the office, to make it possible to play the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana again as soon as possible," added the highest authority of Conmebol.
Domínguez also made it clear that they are working to define a protocol. "We are working with the sole obsession that the ball keeps rolling, working with health as the top priority, and then the competition," he pointed out.
In the Copa Libertadores, Alianza Lima and Binacional participate in the group stage, while in the Sudamericana, Melgar and Sport Huancayo are in the next stage.
