Jorge Luiz Domingos, Jorginho, Flamengo masseur for 40 years, dies at 68 due to COVID-19
Jorge Luiz Domingos, Jorginho, masseur of Flamengo for 40 years, died this Monday of a cardiac arrest at a Rio de Janeiro hospital where he was admitted after contracting COVID-19.
Jorginho was, at 68 years old, the oldest employee of the Football Department of the Rio de Janeiro club, with which he had been associated since 1980, and he was part of the technical committee of the Brazilian team that won the World Cup in Korea and Japan in 2002.
For the past two weeks, he had been hospitalized in a clinic in Ilha do Governador, in the northern area of Rio, but this Mondayhe suffered a cardiac arrest "after complications from COVID-19" and passed away, according to a statement by Flamengo.
Throughout his40 years as a masseur for the red and black team, he witnessed the most glorious times of Brazil's most beloved team.
In the 80s, he shared the dressing room and successes with the golden generation of Flamengo led by Arthur Antunes Coimbra, better known as Zico, and won the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 1981.
Last year he witnessed another historic moment after winning the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship, an achievement that had only been accomplished by Santos of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pelé, in the 60s.
"Flamengo extends its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Jorginho and will forever appreciate his dedication," said the organization, which listed the 31 titles he won during his career as a masseur. EFE
