The surfer Dominic Barona has had to sacrifice one of the things she loves the most in life - surfing - during this COVID-19 pandemic emergency.
'Mimi' is from Montañita and considers herself lucky to live in front of the beach. Getting into the water is not only part of her daily training, but also her life - surfing. She shares her passion within her family with her brother Israel, who is also part of the national team.
Since the emergency started in Ecuador, one of the restrictions has been the prohibition of entering the sea, as beach activities involve crowds.
"We have to set an example and not get into the water, so that other people see it. But as athletes and representatives of the country, my brother and I would like to be able to enter," commented Mimi Barona.
Before the health emergency, the double runner-up in the world surfing championship started the year competing in January in China, for the World Surf League, as part of her preparation to qualify for the Olympic Games. (D)
