Ricardo Gareca was presented on March 2 as coach of the Peruvian national team. Juan Carlos Oblitas recommended the hiring of the former Vélez Sarsfield coach to the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) board.
The 'Tigre' has coached the Peruvian national team in ten matches since then, achieving three wins, three draws, and four losses. Ricardo Gareca's most important achievement was the third place in the 2015 Copa America in Chile.
Ricardo Gareca will make his absolute debut in the World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday, October 8: he will lead Peru against Colombia in Barranquilla, starting at 3:30 p.m. with CMD and ATV broadcasting.
Before being coach of the Peruvian national team, Ricardo Gareca had a bad experience with the Brazilian team Palmeiras, where he was fired due to poor results. His first title as a coach was with Universitario de Deportes, when he won the 2008 Apertura.
