WRC Arrives in Mexico City

The arrival of the WRC in Mexico City was a cause for celebration for thousands of motorsport fans; however, for the drivers, it was not a comfortable stop in terms of logistics, as they were in León for the Wednesday Shakedown, then landed in the capital for the night super special, and on Friday morning they will race again in Guanajuato.

"It is positive to see so many people, because in Mexico they really like motorsport, so it is something special to race in the city, although it means a longer day due to logistics", said French driver Sébastien Ogier.

Despite changing teams from Volkswagen to Ford Fiesta, the Frenchman has achieved good results, with victory in Monte Carlo at the start of the season, and third place in Sweden before arriving in Mexico; he is currently four points behind Finnish driver Jari-Matti Latvala.

"I think everything is gradually falling into place, but so far I cannot complain about the results, it has been a good start and I still have time to adapt to the vehicle, this weekend is a challenge, we'll see what we can do", he explained.

Meanwhile, the WRC leader stated that in the stages in Mexico, where he won last year, the goal to prevail will be to endure, rather than be fast, due to the difficulty of the roads. "I think this rally is about endurance, because there are difficult sections, some beautiful ones too, although the goal as always is to win.

Latvala, who also changed teams and now competes for Toyota, has had a good harvest, with second place in Monte Carlo and first place in Sweden. "It's good to be the leader, with new cars, it will be exciting to compete from Friday and see how they behave at this altitude".

Spanish driver Dani Sordo, fourth in the championship with 25 points, also celebrated being in a country with such a tradition in motorsport like Mexico, and above all because everyone speaks the same language as him.

"For us, it is very nice to come to Mexico because of the stages, the organization, the people who are passionate about the rally, it is a privilege, everything is special".

Local driver Benito Guerra, who is making his debut in the WRC this season, although he hopes to compete in the rest of the season, highlighted what is happening in the capital, with the presence of the best series in the world.

"We have Formula One, Formula E, WEC, and now WRC, I am happy to be here, I know it is a great responsibility".
