29th Edition of the Lala Marathon

This Sunday, the 29th edition of the Lala Marathon will take place with a registration of 5,200 runners. Starting at 6:45 am, participants will run the 42 kilometers and 185 meters through the three sister cities.

This edition has undergone important changes, as it has focused more on the recreational aspect. The prize money for the overall winners has been reduced, and the stage is set for the best local runners to compete for the top positions.

This Saturday, the customary press conference prior to the marathon was held. It was led by María Luisa Marroquín, the event director, along with Rubén Romero, the technical director, Don Ramón Iriarte Maisterrena, founder of the Lala Marathon, Felipe Cedillo and Gerardo González, advisory partners, Alan Brooks, director of the Toronto Marathon, Consuelo Duarte, widow of González, and María Eugenia Abusaíd, director of OCV.

María Luisa Marroquín highlighted the figure of 5,200 runners expected to start on Sunday in the fastest route in Latin America, a qualifying marathon for Boston.

"For the first time, registrations were sold out in 11 days, surpassing the expectations of the organizing committee. It is the first Mexican marathon to reach a participation rate of 31.4% for women. There has never been a Mexican event before with 1,275 local runners representing 24.4% of the total," she explained.

Rubén Romero, on the other hand, emphasized that all 32 states of Mexico will be represented. The state with the most registered runners was Coahuila with 1,449, followed by Nuevo León with 771, Durango with 566, Mexico City with 420, and Chihuahua with 265.

Recreational runners from Colombia, Guatemala, and the United States will also participate from abroad.
