After 14 years racing in the top category of world motorsport, Brazilian Felipe Massa decided to retire from the tracks at the end of this season. The 35-year-old Sao Paulo native will contest his last Formula 1 race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The news was announced by the driver himself who stated "My career was more than I ever dreamed of and I am proud of what I achieved. It is a great honor to finish it off in a team like Williams and it will be emotional to do so with the figure of 250 grands prix in Abu Dhabi."
To which he subsequently added "I thank God for giving me the opportunities I had in life, but above all, for protecting me. And a huge thank you to all the people I worked with in all the teams, each one I was in was a special experience."
However, during these 14 years in Formula 1, Massa drove for two of the most iconic teams in world motorsport, such as Ferrari and Williams, staying 8 years in the Scuderia Maranello and three in the English team, making his debut in 2002 with the Sauber Petronas team.
