Formula 1 Returns to Mexico City
The Formula 1 will return to the Mexican capital for the second consecutive year with the Mexico Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, a venue that will welcome the best drivers in the world and whose main objective will be to reach the top of the Mexican podium.
This race aims to match or surpass what was done last year when, after 23 years of absence, it returned to our country and despite the initial threats from the neighbors to boycott the Mexican Grand Prix, its performance and final result were more than favorable.
The 2015 edition, held between October 30 and November 1, was the penultimate race of that Formula 1 season, which ended with Nico Rosberg from Mercedes as the winner on the Mexican circuit, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, although Hamilton finished the year as the absolute champion.
Although Rosberg currently leads the table with 313 points (not counting the results of the United States Grand Prix), the British driver is chasing the leadership with 280 points, so a great performance in the US circuit and the Magdalena Mixhuca track are seen as victories that will define the absolute champion.
As for the Mexican drivers, it is expected that Sergio Perez takes advantage of Nico Hulkenberg's departure from Force India to take the leadership of the team and not only improve his eighth position obtained on the Mexican circuit, but also achieve a place on the Mexican podium. Meanwhile, his compatriot Esteban Gutierrez can redeem himself and score his first points of the season.
Some of the highlights of the previous edition include Rosberg's return to the top of the podium since the 2015 Austrian GP; the penalties imposed on Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button for using new components in their engines; the 25-grid place penalty for Kimi Raikkonen for using a new gearbox and engine; Sebastian Vettel's first retirement of the season since 2014 Austria, and Felipe Massa reaching 364 km/h, making the Hermanos Rodriguez the fastest track on the championship.
