About Miquel Liso, the artist who captures F1

On the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix, to be held from October 28 to 30 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the eyes of motorsport will be focused on our country in the penultimate race of the season, and one of those eyes will surely be the Spanish artist Miquel Liso.

The Catalan photographer went from being an employee at a dealership to making the leap to the tracks. His passion for the sport of speed has made him spend a good part of his life surrounded by vehicles.

In 1991, he began laying the foundations for what would be a successful career as a professional Formula 1 photographer. Thanks to having two brothers working at a Fiat dealership, they opened a door for him in that service position.

That platform gave Liso the opportunity to occasionally go to championship races, where he attended solely as a fan and captured the most relevant moments he witnessed through an ordinary camera.

That's how he remained for seven years of his life, but he decided to take action and embarked on a career as a photographer. His first major event was in 1998, in Monaco; the second in Sweden, but his postcards didn't draw the attention of the attendees.

It wasn't until the third opportunity that 'Micky', as some know him, met Jaime Puig, who at the time was the director of the competition division of the brand located in Martorell, Barcelona.

Liso caught Puig's attention, and they soon formed an agreement to work together, although Puig asked Miquel to go beyond the conventional. Their working relationship continues 20 years after that meeting.

In the last three years, Miquel Liso has dedicated himself to creating one of his great works: 'Slow Speed in Racing'. It showcases 100 photographs out of nearly a million portraits in his career.

The artist's work is recognized in the motorsport world, to the point that top figures in the Great Circus make personal requests to him, including German driver Nico Rosberg of Mercedes, who recently received his delivery just a few days ago.
