José Luis Carranza
One of the idols of Universitario de Deportes and current member of the coaching staff, dismissed any problems with Paolo Maldonado or any of his colleagues. However, he emphasized that internal problems should be handled as such.
"The coaching staff is doing well. We go through that and that's it. There's nothing here, and dirty laundry is washed at home," said 'Puma' Carranza after the morning practice.
According to Trome newspaper, Carranza and Maldonado have differences regarding the defensive lineup for the match against Alianza Atlético on Sunday. While the former proposes to start with John Galliquio, the latter believes it is best to keep Braynner García. Furthermore, according to the same source, the inclusion of Mauro Cantoro, a friend of 'Puma', did not sit well with the former midfielder.
In Friday's training session, Paolo Maldonado arrived two hours after the start and left half an hour before the end. José Luis Carranza explained that it was for personal reasons.
On the other hand, 'Puma' shared the opinion of sports manager Germán Leguía that elimination would be favorable for Universitario de Deportes due to the consecutive matches in the Descentralizado league. "The championship is a marathon of games," he emphasized.
