The reigning double world champion Max Verstappen won the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, the first race of the Formula 1 season, ahead of his Red Bull teammate, Mexican Sergio Pérez.
Spanish driver Fernando Alonso finished third in his first race with Aston Martin. The driver who could be Verstappen's main rival in the title fight, Monegasque Charles Leclerc, had to retire in the final straight of the race due to a mechanical problem.
Leclerc retired from the race
Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who suffered a mechanical problem, was forced to retire on Sunday at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the opening race of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
"No power! No power! No power!" Leclerc indicated to his team officials in a radio message, with less than twenty laps to go in the race. The 'Scuderia' driver was then in third position, behind the two Red Bulls, Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez.
Leclerc, last year's runner-up with Ferrari, is announced this year as Verstappen's main rival for the world title. Last year, Ferrari was already a victim of several reliability issues in their car, which ultimately prevented them from really challenging Red Bull.
